Remi
Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Age: 3.5 y +/-, Female Weight: 45 pds Medical: UTD on all vaccines, neutered, microchipped Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: No Kid Friendly: No Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Massachusetts Remi is a true diamond in the rough looking for an some-one committed to helping him shine. This sweet boy is the definition of bravery and resilience. Remi started life in an abandoned house barely surviving and then lived with his siblings in a livestock pen. Despite coming into foster with no training or socialization yet, it continues to amaze us with his intelligence and strong work ethic. However, he still has a wild side that requires an experienced person with patience and a commitment to working with him physically and mentally. This boy wants to work, he picks things up very quickly and loves to show off. He thrives when given plenty of physical and mental stimulation. He exemplifies “a good dog is a tired dog”- Tired Remi wants nothing more than to cuddle on the couch. Remi, who is not mentally and physically exhausted, is a wild child. One of the challenges he has been working on is his hyper arousal and frustration which lead to him racing around/jumping and being very mouthy. Remi knows sit, down, with me, place, drop it, find it, touch and shake. He plays ball and will bring it back to you to throw. He walks very well on a leash but is currently working on excitability towards dogs and barking at strangers. Remi is quite weary of new people and takes a while to fully warm up and accept them. We have been working on “quiet” – not barking at people. (He is fine with people at the dog park but will bark at them if he sees the same person outside of the dog park). He would prefer a home that doesn’t have a lot of visitors. Remi would do well with a patient, playful, confident female dog, He is currently being fostered with a 14 year old female Catahoula and many “guest” dogs. He is impressionable and picks up negative behaviors quickly. He goes to day care and has friends at the dog park but does best with dogs that don’t hump. He does not take cues well, so he can be a bit too much for some dogs, especially smaller dogs who don’t want to play. His interactions with the cat have been him pouncing on the cat to play and cat hissing/swatting at him. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Remi’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. |
