You can find her chasing a ball, enjoying long walks & hikes and even enjoys running with her humans. She is fully house & crate trained. We do not have a doggy door, but she uses a hanging bell to let us know when she needs to go out. She has been through formal puppy training. As she grew, we quickly learned she is eager to learn and is her happiest if she is mentally & physically stimulated. Don’t let her size fool you…she is not a lap dog. While she does enjoy taking a nap on the couch or bed, she would much prefer catching a ball, running, or chasing birds. Because of this, we were able to work with her on more advanced commands including sit, lay & stay with distance, stay (with distance, distractions & retreat commands), up, paw, shake, and find it. She also has been trained to retreat with an emergency command. She walks best with a harness or martingale collar. Her most used commands while walking are – Stay, sit, heel, hurry, and come. She is trained to stop at cross walks and wait for the “come” command to continue. When it comes to humans, she is best suited in a home with adults and not small children. She does well with male & female humans but is a bit submissive towards males. She usually rolls over, shows her belly & occasionally pees. Introductions to new males is better done outside to avoid an accident. Once she gets a chance to “meet” you, she will likely bring you a ball to throw. For children, she tolerates them well but is instinctively ready to work and will nip, nudge, and direct them as if she is herding. She has been socialized with other dogs in our local kennel & currently lives with a 9-month-old lab who quickly doubled her size. The initial introduction was slow, supervised and short. It started with walks together allowing each to lead the pack. In the home, we did short, supervised play until they learned each other’s roles and were able to feel comfortable. Red’s crate is her retreat when she needs a break so we have kept her & the labs crate separate & feed them separate still. They share a water bowl & get along well.
