Maple
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Age: 3.5 y +/-, Female Weight: 45 pds Medical: UTD on all vaccines, neutered, microchipped Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: No Kid Friendly: No Crate Trained: Yes House Trained: Yes Location: Massachusetts Maple is a 3.5 year old Australian shepherd/cattle dog mix who loves to hike and play tug of war and fetch with a ball or frisbee. Maple is a great backpacking and hiking companion and is great on the leash. Maple enjoys and is great in the car on both long and short trips. Maple has a lot of energy and benefits from daily vigorous walks or hikes. She is 45lbs and in great health, having had no previous health concerns or issues. Maple was housebroken very early and is great in the house, even when alone. She does not have accidents and she does not tear up furniture, home goods, or the trash when alone (she seems to like and benefit from the quiet time!) Maple is a reactive and anxious dog, and would definitely require your time and patience to get to learn her triggers (reflections of light, cars passing by, runners/bikers, other dogs, unfamiliar people). Maple is reactive and will bite when you incorrectly sop her from reacting to triggering event (reflections of light, cars passing by, runners/bikers). As per her current owner, it has not been an easy decision to rehome maple- they have recently had a newborn and are realizing that we cannot give maple the daily vigorous exercise she needs, as well as the mental stimulation that she needs. While she has been good with our baby, we are concerned for the long term when our child starts crawling and walking and her herding impulse comes in more. Maple is ultimately sweet and will truly be your best friend-it seems to be what she wants most- to find her best human friend (or friends- I know she would love a couple without children). After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Maple’s adoption donation is $250 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. |
