Confident, young and full of zest with loads of potential sums up our girl Maize. She loves a game of fetch and would excel in training as she is super smart and a quick learner. This will be crucial as she emerges into adulthood and will not only benefit her, but whomever is lucky enough to bring her home. She will need guidance and boundaries just as any puppy does. She is quickly catching on to the game of fetch with help from the other dogs in her life. Potty training has been going very well, sleeping through the night without a problem and no accidents in her crate during the day. She loves other dogs and does well with the cats in her foster home. Car rides are effortless as she will be either napping or gazing out the window while her ears flap in the wind. When out on walks she doesn't pull much, but is working on being a little less all over the place and is quick to notice taunting squirrels up a head. Food is the greatest thing ever which will be beneficial in training, however she doesn't like other dogs trying to get in on her meal time and has shown a little bit of guarding in response which can be worked on.
With the possibility to go in any direction along with being an active, energetic, and smart she will likely do well in activities such as running, hiking, agility and even scentwork. Please keep in mind that Maize will be on the larger size at 60lbs or so when fully matured. If you are looking for a dog to just chill on the couch with and be a buddy, Maize is not that dog. She has more "go" than "whoa". When applying for Maize, please have experience with Catahoulas.
If you are interested in adopting Maize please email email@example.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Maize's adoption donation is $400 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, and microchip. Currently Maize is too young to be spayed and will also have a spay/neuter contract. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
