Bardsley is a 3 year old male Catahoula mix, with gorgeous merle markings. He is very obedient and well-behaved, and was even at the top of his class in obedience school. He does very well in public places (vet, pet store, parks, waiting outside stores). He gets along great with other dogs and would fit right in to a multi-dog household. He also has a good recall and does well off-leash at dog parks and natural areas with lots of land (unless he sees a squirrel or deer, which he chases but always comes back). He walks well on a leash. He loves hiking and swimming and going for runs. He also enjoys doing nose-work around the house, and if trained properly, he would make a great hunting companion. He's calm and non-destructive in the house and knows all the basic commands (sit, stay, place, lay down, come, wait, take, drop/leave it), and even does well with baths, nail trims, and teeth brushing. He is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, is neutered, and weighs ~65 lbs.
He is nervous around men at first, but warms up to them. He is especially comfortable around men if they have another dog with them. He loves to run and explore and would do best in a home with a yard or land to run. He has a strong prey drive, so a home with no small children or cats would be more suitable for him.
Bardsley is in need of a new home or foster asap. Although his current owner thinks he is an amazing dog and the best companion, Bardsley hasn’t adjusted well to moving to a small 1 bdrm apartment in the city. The hustle and bustle of the urban city environment has been very stressful to him and his owner, resulting in him becoming very protective of her and territorial within their living area, and he has acted aggressively towards people within and around the apartment building (his owner is now required to rehome him, since she is not able to rehome herself anytime soon). But when Bardsley is away from his territory, he no longer displays this threatening demeanor. Bardsley would love to have a new home free of blaring sirens, people shouting, and the constant noise of traffic.
If you are interested in adopting/fostering Bardsley please email email@example.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Bardsley's adoption donation includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heart worm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
