Baker is a young, smart, striking Catahoula Leopard / ACD mix who loves people and other dogs. He is a 45-pound, lean, muscular dog and a powerful runner who is beautiful watch run. He is crate trained and waits quietly in the morning until he is let out. He is house trained, knows to poop in the woods, and knows all the basic commands: sit, stay, down, lie down, leave it, drop it, time for bed (go in crate), heel, come and side (go to the side of the road when a car is coming).
He does need work with following commands with distractions, especially heel and come. Baker is a powerful chewer who is very happy to sit in the sun and gnaw on a large stick or get a good belly rub. He loves to track smells, and dig for small animals like chipmunks and moles. His favorite toys are all balls, especially squeaky ones, and he enjoys playing tug of war. He will do best in a home with no kids, no cats, and freedom to run.
Baker will also need some behavioral work as he can be very pushy with rules and training; this is where his ACD (Cattle Dog) and Catahoula sides show themselves. Leadership through positive reinforcement is essential!
If you are interested in adopting Baker please email email@example.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Baker's adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
